On September 18, 2016, The Midland Reporter-Telegram published a rich article differentiating the OTA recip compressor from the screw type. Touting the benefits of the recip are and not limited to:

  1. EFFICIENT
  2. HORIZONTALLY-DISPOSED CYLINDERS DRAIN LIQUIDS OUT AND AWAY FROM THE COMPRESSION ZONES
  3. COST EFFECTIVE
  4. ERGONOMIC
  5. OFF THE SHELF REPLACEMENT PARTS
  6. SIGNIFICANLY LESS OIL UTILIZED THAN SCREWS
  7. MUCH MUCH MORE!

mrt-article-picThe revolutionary KS40 reciprocating compressor performs much better than screw or other forms of reciprocating compressors. While many producers have come to accept the operating inefficiencies of these other types of compressors, they will find OTA Compression’s KS40 compressor performs much better in almost every aspect. Advantages include its ability to handle vapor and fluid, easier and more cost friendly repair and strong operating efficiencies.

The KS40’s horizontally-disposed cylinder position is ideal for vapor recovery and other compression applications because it is best suited for liquid and vapor issues so common in the oilfield.

Horizontal disposition sets the KS40 apart from other compressors whose cylinders are vertically disposed. It lets the unit evacuate liquids in both standby and operating modes instead of letting them accumulate. Accumulated fluids flow downhill in vertically oriented cylinders, seeping past the piston rings and into the crankcase oil. These fluids thin the crankcase oil, making it less “slick,” creating friction and wear on the moving parts.

Where screw compressors are concerned, these fluids are the reason for expensive PM costs. Since the gas containing these liquids is introduced to the oil during the compression process, screw compressors require special filters and temperature controls to control contamination. As screw compressors use the same oil for cooling that’s used for trapping and compressing the gas, a larger volume of oil is required. Liquid contamination to this oil volume requires replacement of the oil, which is very costly.

By avoiding this seepage the KS40 greatly reduces the time and production lost to down time. On the occasion that the KS40 needs repairs or maintenance, field personnel can easily do them while the KS40 is still installed. Most competitive units, including screw compressors, must be transported to a shop for repairs that, on average, takes weeks, requiring the producer to tie up capital in extra compressors or to lose production while the unit is non-operable. None of that happens with the KS40. Technicians can perform a complete cylinder and piston ring exchange in about two hours.

OTA has engineered the KS40 to capture regulated vapors at top efficiency as well. Instead of constantly cycling on and off as gas pressures fluctuate, smart programming and controls allow for fine tuning of the recycle process and motor rpm, which keeps the gas recirculating until the pressure returns to the level that requires vapor capture.

To further maximize operating time OTA supplies users with detailed monthly reports. Vice President of Sales says, “Our producer clients find our monthly reports incredibly helpful. These informative reports let them make educated decisions on unit maintenance, unit performance and how to improve their operations.”

More and more producers are switching to OTA’s KS40 variety due to its reliability, which translates into greater profits and better regulatory compliance.
